Student Matinee Performances

Educators, introduce your students to the power of live performing arts with the ultimate field trip!

Onstage Ogden invites students and teachers from Ogden, Weber, Davis, Box Elder & Morgan School Districts, as well as approved charter & homeschools to attend special Student Matinees throughout the school year. These performances by national and international artists represent a variety of arts & science disciplines, and are specifically designed for young audiences and connect to Utah Core Standards.

All Student Matinee Performances run 60 minutes and include a Q&A with the Artists.

“National Geographic Live: Wild Cats Revealed” brings the Utah SEEd Standards to life by taking students on a visual journey through India’s diverse ecosystems. From the snowy Himalayas to dense tropical jungles, photographer Sandesh Kadur demonstrates the principles of adaptation, biodiversity, and ecological balance. Students will observe firsthand how unique physical traits allow species to thrive in specific habitats and why preserving these elusive predators is critical for the stability of our global environment.

Utah Core Connection: This performance aligns with the Utah SEEd Standards by providing real-world evidence of how animal adaptations and external features allow specific species to survive in diverse global ecosystems.

Simply Three brings the Utah Fine Arts Core Standards to center stage by redefining the “classical crossover” genre. Through their high-energy performance, students will explore the Connect and Respond strands as they witness how technical virtuosity on the violin, cello, and bass can transform modern hits into cinematic masterpieces. This showcase demonstrates that the foundations of music—rhythm, melody, and expression—are universal languages that bridge the gap between the concert hall and the digital age, inspiring the next generation of Utah musicians to “create” and “perform” without boundaries.

Utah Core Connection: This performance fulfills the Utah Core Standards for Fine Arts “Connect” Strand by demonstrating how classical string techniques can be synthesized with modern popular culture to create new, relevant musical meanings.

Piano Battle turns the concert hall into a musical arena, perfectly capturing the Respond and Connect strands of the Utah Fine Arts Core. As Andreas Kern and Paul Cibis go head-to-head, students are empowered to act as the jury, using critical listening skills to evaluate technical virtuosity and artistic interpretation. By blending classical repertoire with spontaneous improvisation and audience interaction, Piano Battle demonstrates that music is a living, breathing competition of ideas, encouraging students to form and articulate their own aesthetic judgments.

Utah Core Connection: This interactive duel directly engages the Utah Core “Respond” Strand, requiring students to use critical listening skills to evaluate technical virtuosity and artistic interpretation in real-time.

San Jose Taiko brings the Utah Fine Arts and Social Studies Core to life through the “heartbeat” of the Japanese drum. By integrating the Perform and Connect strands, this world-class ensemble demonstrates how music and dance are inseparable, using the body as an instrument of cultural expression. Students will explore the history of Japanese Americans through a contemporary lens, witnessing how discipline, respect, and synchronized movement create a powerful language that transcends cultural boundaries.

Utah Core Connection:This showcase bridges the Utah Music and Dance Core Standards by illustrating how physical energy (Ki) and choreographed movement are essential to communicating cultural heritage and rhythmic expression.

Early-Bird Rate: $5/student, teacher & chaperone Register and pay 3+ weeks before the show.

Standard Rate: $7/student, teacher & chaperone After the early-bird deadline.

Financial Support Available

50% Ticket Scholarship — For schools with 50%+ free/reduced lunch. One per school per season.

Free Tickets — Fully subsidized seats for Title I schools with 70%+ free/reduced lunch. ~200 seats available across the season.

$95 Bus Scholarship — One per matinee for Title I or demonstrated-need schools.

Day-of Timeline

  • 9:00 AM — Buses arrive, check in
  • 9:30 AM — Performance begins
  • 10:30 AM — Show ends, Q&A wraps up
  • 10:45 AM — Dismissal, buses depart
