Join your Utah Symphony as Maestro Thierry Fischer takes the baton for the final time in Ogden. Two of the most evocative works of the early 20th century, Jean Sibelius’ swirling 5th Symphony and rousing hymn of freedom, Finlandia, evoke the breathtaking beauty and struggles of his beloved Finland.

A covert protest piece against growing censorship from the Russian Empire, Finlandia’s rousing, turbulent opening transcends into a reverent, serene melody that’s since become the unofficial national anthem of Finland. Emotional and evocative, you can hear the heritage and history in every note.

Inspired by swans in flight, Sibelius’ 5th Symphony is his love letter to the natural world. It buzzes, whirs, and flutters across mysterious landscapes, accelerating into one of the most dramatic finales ever. It’s tense, it’s theatrical, it’s thrilling. Enjoy this powerful evening of soaring triumphs and the endless possibilities all around – and within.
