POLKAS, CUMBIAS, AND ROCK EN ESPAÑOL

LOS TEXMANIACS
WITH MAKING MOVIES

🗓️ WEDNESDAY, JULY 8 | 7:30 PM
📍 OGDEN AMPHITHEATER

Los Texmaniacs bring the accordion-driven soul of the Texas-Mexico borderlands to Ogden Amphitheater this summer, joined by Kansas City’s Making Movies for a Wednesday night of música that stretches from San Antonio dance halls to Havana streets.

Picture a July evening downtown. The sun dips behind the mountains, street food fills the air, and the unmistakable squeeze of a button accordion opens up a song your abuela hummed in the kitchen. That’s the world Los Texmaniacs create—a sound rooted in the conjunto tradition, where polkas meet blues and cumbias slide into rock and roll. Founded by bajo sexto master Max Baca, the band has spent three decades keeping this music alive while pushing it somewhere new. Their 2010 Grammy win for Best Tejano Album announced them to the world, and Baca’s work across 11 Grammy-winning projects speaks to a musician who lives where tradition and innovation meet.

WHAT TO EXPECT: LOS TEXMANIACS AT THE OGDEN AMPHITHEATER

Nephew Josh Baca drives the accordion with a style he calls his “Texas gumbo—my posole,” blending old-time Tejano polkas and huapangos with the energy of a band that’s recorded with everyone from Flaco Jiménez to the Rolling Stones. Their most recent Grammy nomination—a zydeco tribute alongside Taj Mahal—proves they’ve never been interested in staying in one lane.

Opening the evening, Making Movies brings a different kind of fire. Founded by Panamanian brothers Enrique and Diego Chi, this Latin Grammy-nominated band blends rock, cumbia, son cubano, and psychedelia into a sound that defies easy categories. With albums produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos and a Billboard Latin Pop top-three debut, they’ve built a reputation for performances that feel like both a concert and a celebration.

A SUMMER NIGHT YOU’LL FEEL IN YOUR BONES

This is more than a show. It’s a gathering. Grab something from the food trucks, settle in under open skies, and let two of the most vital acts in American Latin music turn a Wednesday night into something you’ll talk about all summer. Los Texmaniacs last headlined in Ogden at OFOAM’s Ogden Music Festival in 2023, and they’re back for more. Wednesday, July 8 at 8pm. Nos vemos allí.
