The 5 Browns learned to play piano in Utah living rooms before they became the first family of five to attend Juilliard at the same time, and their return to Ogden still carries the charge of a homecoming.
The Brown siblings relocated from Houston as kids and grew up studying piano privately across the state. All five earned spots at Juilliard. Their debut album hit #1 on Billboard’s Classical Chart. Eight records and more than 30 weeks at #1 later, People magazine had dubbed them the “Fab Five,” and Oprah and 60 Minutes had come calling. But the family never drifted from its Utah roots. Their 2024 performance at the Browning Center sold out, proof that Northern Utah audiences feel a real connection to this group.
What makes the concert itself unforgettable is the sheer visual and sonic scale of it. Five Steinway grand pianos arranged across a single stage. Ten hands take on Rhapsody in Blue, Flight of the Bumblebee, In the Hall of the Mountain King, film scores, and original arrangements you won’t hear anywhere else. No backing tracks. No orchestra. Just five pianists and five grand pianos filling a room with more sound than you thought possible.
The current ensemble features Desirae, Deondra, Gregory, and Melody Brown alongside pianist Stephen Beus, a gold medalist of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and faculty member at Brigham Young University. Beus joined permanently in 2023, bringing his own Utah ties to a group that already feels like it belongs here.
