The first of Dvořák’s great symphonies, Symphony No. 5 is a marvel of bright orchestral color. From its flowing clarinets and lively Bohemian dance to the rousing, brassy conclusion, Symphony No. 5 demonstrates the unique style that audiences loved back then and still love today. This rarely-performed work is paired with a perennial favorite: Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 featuring Randall Goosby, who “plays like an angel with nothing to prove” –LA Times. With its dazzling, virtuosic passages, the violinist leaps and whirls, making the instrument sing as it soars and soars again. The evening starts with a spin on a merry-go-round as Ana Sokolović’s Ringelspiel takes us back to simpler childhood times. Revel in wide-eyed wonder with your Utah Symphony on March 2.
